| Panchla is a community development block which comes under the administrative division in Howrah Sadar subdivision of the district of Howrah in West Bengal. It is bounded by Jagatballavpur CD Block in the north and west, Domjur and Sankrail CD Blocks in the east and Uluberia I and Uluberia II CD Blocks in the south. Our college, Panchla Mahavidyalaya, was established in 2010, on a 3 acre plot of land handed over by The Managing Committee of Panchla Azeem Moazzam High (H.S.) School. |
At present , Panchla Mahavidyalaya have 778 students who are mostly first generation learners. Most of the students come from financially poor background and about more than 85% students belong to the minority community. Although there are a number of higher secondary schools since many years in Panchla, there were no colleges nearby. The students had to travel to Gangadharpur, Uluberia, Andul and other nearby areas to pursue higher studies. Sensing this precarious conditions of the society the then M.L.A., Panchla Constituency. Ms. Doli Roy, put her demand on the floor of the Legislative Assembly and requested the erstwhile Govt. to set-up a co-educational, General Degree College (Govt.-aided under WB Pay Packet Scheme). Her desire was fulfilled and the Govt. was pleased to sanction the establishment of a General Degree College in Panchla Area. |
The college got its building in 2015. Since then, over the years our student strength has increased consistently. Parents find the college within their locality and girls from the minority community come in larger numbers. The teaching and non teaching staff, along with the principal work as a close knit family and do every possible thing to help give a proper environment to the students. |
Students are encouraged to study hard and participate in extra-curricular activities. Participation in Mock Parliament, inter-college competitions in different aspects , educational tours, sports, debates, students’ seminars , karate classes only for girls, are some to be mentioned. Career counseling sessions are arranged frequently to guide the students and give them an exposure. |
The college is gradually opening its wings, gaining strength with time, moving forward with confidence and promises to evolve each day to make a difference in the lives of the students who wish to succeed in life with a good career. |
